With the recent events surrounding COVID-19, we have been reflecting on what makes our community so special. Our team lives works and plays in La Jolla and PB, and during this time of staying at home, shopping less, having limited social interaction, we have realized what we have missed the most is our local shops. And, we realized how frequently we shop small.
Whether it is buying fish and meats from El Pescador, the Fish Shop, or Valley Market to shopping at the Farmer’s Markets chatting with our favorite vendors, the past few weeks illustrate how lucky we are to live in a community that supports and embraces locally-owned businesses. We have been missing our restaurants, our shops, and the employees who take care of us.
Shop small started as a nationwide movement to celebrate small businesses every day and to help communities thrive and stay vibrant. By shopping or dining at small businesses in our community, we are showing support and strengthening our local economy.
Remember, when we shop small, we are supporting a locally owned business, we are helping a mom or dad pay for a mortgage, put food on the table, and send their kids to college. For small business owners, we are their shareholders. We are who they strive to serve and please.
During and after this national crisis, we need to remember to shop small and support our local businesses.
